A Shot In The Arm

Sunday Meskin Measures.

As promised I am using my own scans and those of the Comic Book Museum to show you as much as I can of George Roussos' epic 15+ year run as the artist of General Electric's give-away comics on the subject of electricity. Roussos used several artists to create these with, but in total they may represent some of his best solo work of his career. This first one seems to be the first he did and it seems to fit in nicely with his style at that moment (as can be seen from the samples of the newspaper strip Judge Wright, which he took over from another artist later in the forties. Follow the link to see those.

Like Shooting Fish

Saturday Leftover Day.

In March 2015 I shared whatever I could find of Gene Hazelton's Denis the menace imitation Angel Face. Like Hank Ketcham Hazelton was a disney trained catoonist. He later found fame at Hanna Barbara, where he would design many of their characters (including the Flintstones). He also drew some of the Flintstones comics and is highly regarder among the animators and catoonists here. Angel Face is a 'fogotten' panel strip that deserves a better presentation than I can give it, since all my scans come from microfiche sources. I hope somewhere someone will turn up an actual clipped collection. Since my last post I discovered I had some more of these cartoons, some in a lesser condition, but it is all in aid of the complete set. These new ones came from the Ogden Standard, if anyone wants to have a look.

No time to put the in the right order today, so here are the older ones I did a second time, plus the new ones underneath.
